With a desire to serve his adopted homeland, Peter Kim joined ROTC as a freshman at George Mason University, planning to attend medical school and serve his new country as a career military man. However, financial turmoil wrought his family, and Peter altered his life course in desperate need of survival.
Upon graduation, he joined his brother-in-law’s roofing business in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, where he embarked on his first single laborer job: an elementary school metal roof project that required a complete rebuild after being decimated by a hurricane. Without compensation or regret, Peter and his brother-in-law rebuilt that roof, applying lessons learned and creating a structure that could withstand the strongest storms.
Savoring the completion of their re-installation, Peter climbed to the top of the school’s rooftop. He peered out into the horizon, sat quietly, and counted, one by one, rooftops as far as the eye could see. Born at that moment, limitless opportunities tapped Peter’s indomitable spirit, and from this vision emerged Eastern Corporation.
For the next eight years, Peter worked, ate, and slept at every job site as he continued to build more school rooftops and then libraries, police stations, hotels, and hospitals. As his portfolio expanded, so did his vision. In 2014, Eastern Glass and Aluminum was launched, expanding from primarily roofing to a full-service envelope contractor with roofing, siding, and glass/glazing capabilities. EGA’s aim broadened to target commercial, education, government, hospitality, facility, and sports stadium markets.
With multi-state reach and a resume of successful projects, Eastern secured the largest project in its history in 2018 as the general contractor for Phase I of the SK Battery America plant in Commerce, Georgia. Born from the success of the SK Battery project was the desire to expand in a novel direction— the implementation of commercial and industrial general contractor units. Ultimately, iugis Construction Corporation was created from this newfound growth. As a general contracting company, iugis specializes in commercial, K-12, higher education, healthcare, religious, multi-purpose, retail, multi-family, mixed-use, senior living, and student housing facilities. Rounding out the full construction arena and focusing on the specialized needs of industrialized conglomerates, Eastern Contractors Corporation originated.
Today, Eastern and our family of Companies continue to build on the foundation laid many years ago to be the proactive and comprehensive contractor we are today.
